How The Clearing Face Mask Prevents Blemishes

How The Clearing Face Mask Prevents Blemishes

If you have oily or acne-prone skin, you’re probably familiar with the different types of acne care products on the market. You probably also know that most of these products are harsh on your skin, and often dry out your skin (at best) and could even potentially further irritate your skin and trigger more acne. We can’t win, can we?

Well, it turns out you can. Our new favourite blemish-busting clay mask is formulated with powerful active ingredients as well as soothing and nourishing Australian botanical extracts, to make sure dries out the blemishes, never your skin.

The heavy lifter of our new Oil Control range, the Clearing Face Mask is formulated to balance sebum production and prevent blemishes on oily and acne-prone skin, so we’ve dubbed it the “nemesis of blemishes”.

The Clearing Face Mask serves a preventive function when it comes to acne. It takes around 2-6 weeks for a pimple to form, meaning that's 2-6 weeks of proper skincare for you to avoid the zit altogether. Read on to discover how the mask works, when and where to use it, and how it pairs with other products in your anti-acne skincare routine.

How Clearing Face Mask targets acne

A targeted formula, our mask was made to target 3 specific main causes of common acne. This includes a combination of excess sebum, blocked pores (containing a combo of said sebum, dead skin cells, dirt and other types of gunk), and bacteria imbalance creates the perfect storm. With the perfect balance of smoothing, soothing and sebum-controlling ingredients, our Mask addresses all three causes of acne to promote a clear complexion.

Firstly, Australian White Clay and niacinamide target acne cause number one – excess oil. As purifying clay draws out excess oil, niacinamide helps to reduce sebum production and minimise the appearance of pores.

Next, hydroxy acids remove dead skin cells and combat blocked pores – the second acne cause. As AHAs from Australian Finger Lime gently exfoliate the skin’s surface, salicylic acid goes deeper. An oil-soluble beta-hydroxy acid (BHA), this amazing anti-acne ingredient penetrates beneath the skin’s surface to break down the buildup, exfoliating pores from within for clearer skin.

Finally, the formula addresses an overgrowth of acne-causing bacteria – the third cause of acne. Natural prebiotics promote a balanced skin microbiome by restoring a healthy level of beneficial bacteria.

Drying out your blemishes, not your skin

Acne products often leave your skin feeling dry, tight and uncomfortable. The Oil Control range doesn’t. As well as addressing the causes of acne, the Clearing Face Mask is super soothing on irritated, breakout-prone skin. And it’s all thanks to our new Aussie botanical hero, Old Man Weed.

With potent anti-inflammatory properties, this medicinal native Australian extract calms irritation and helps reduce redness. It also protects skin and promotes a clear complexion with five antimicrobial, antioxidant flavonoids.

When (and how) to use the mask

Want glowing skin minus the oily slick? The Clearing Face Mask can be used 2-3 times a week on clean, dry skin. We recommend cleansing first with our Oil Control Clearing Cleanser for a double dose of sebum-balancing, barrier-supporting action. Or our Australian Pink Clay Deep Pore Cleanser to tackle congestion, bumps and enlarged pores.

Apply a thin layer of the mask to your face, avoiding the eye area. If you have combination skin, concentrate on your oily t-zone. Or use the mask as a spot treatment, wherever you’re most greasy or blemish-prone.

When the clay changes colour and is dry to the touch, rinse it off with warm water and soak up any residue with a clean towel. Once it’s off, restore hydration with a moisturiser. If you're trying to reduce greasy shine or are struggling with acne, the Clearing Moisturiser is for you. Normal-to-dry types will love the Tasmanian Spring Water Hydration Boost Cream, while combination skins can take their pick – or switch between the two.

The bottom line

An oil-control skincare routine can work wonders for rogue spots or recurring breakouts – and the Clearing Face Mask is a must-have part of that routine.
